Philip Shaw Wines, Koomooloo Vineyard – Orange NSW, Australia. A dream in the making for the last 50 years.
Philip Shaw is recognised as one of the world’s leading winemakers. He’s twice been awarded the coveted Winemaker of the Year award at the London International Wine and Spirit Competition (1986 and 2000), received the Qantas Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine’s accolade for Australian Winemaker of the Year (1999) and received the Graham Gregory Trophy for his outstanding contribution to the Australian wine industry (2000).
Philip started making wine using the bathtub and lemonade bottles at age 12, started his winemaking career at age 15 at wineries in the Adelaide region and by age 24 was head winemaker at Lindemans Karadoc. Ten years later he became Head of Production / Winemaking for Rosemount and Southcorp Wines, and the rest as they say is history.
During his time at Rosemount Philip established his own vineyard in the Orange region in 1989. He had been searching Australia for years to find the best site in an emerging wine-growing region to make exceptional wines with flavour and finesse. The opportunity to pioneer and champion the Orange wine-growing region greatly appealed to Philip, and his belief in the region has been backed by numerous international awards.
Philip Shaw Wines are sourced entirely from the winery’s Koomooloo Vineyard in Orange. The cool climate vineyard rises to an altitude of 900m (2,950 feet), making it one of the highest vineyards in Australia. Philip’s philosophy is:
“Every wine should be placed on its own canvas and not replicate others. You should be guiding the direction of the wine not controlling it – always challenging the achievements.”
This is a family owned and operated business. Philip Shaw Wines brings together a team of people that share the philosophy of what we are creating. This is a team of individuals with their own character, challenging each other.
